In the 17 years of teaching across several writing settings, the cornerstone of my pedagogy has been writing and rhetoric as a tool for justice and liberatory expression. As a queer/trans and disabled educator and prose writer my methods revolve around challenging privilege, power, and bias in the often-oppressive situations of the writing classroom and the publishing industry.
Specifically, my work challenges harmful and inequitable learning environments, and narratives that denigrate the literacies of historically oppressed racial, ethnic, queer and disabled groups. In one on one mentorships I center the writer’s direction—writers are the engine and I see my role as one of guidance, keeping writers curious, and helping to redirect when writers fall off course. I empower clients to hone their critical and reflective skills.
